1999 JET ORIENTATION EVENTS REPORT

**Please note the following planned events. JETAA Members are needed for presenting topics at the Orientation. There will be a Planning Meeting on May 8 th at 2:30pm, prior to the MEET & GREET. All interested JETAA members are asked to attend this meeting or contact the Coordinators prior.

Event: “MEET & GREET”

Date: Saturday, MAY 8 th

Place: Manitoba Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, 180 McPhillips Ave.

• 4:00-6:00pm - The new MB/SASK 1999 JETs will meet with JET alumni. The Orientation Handbook compiled by MB/SASK JETAA will be distributed to participants. There will be an informal presentation by JETAA and a question and answer period.
• 6:00p.m. – Palatal BBQ Restaurant, 2790 Pembina Highway (Ph:989-7200) After the session everyone will go to the Palatal Restaurant for socializing and more talking about Japan. This is a good opportunity for new participants to meet each other, exchange telephone numbers, and informally ask questions of alumni. The restaurant is also very accommodating for this event and serves great Asian food.

Event: JET Program ORIENTATION

Date: Saturday, June 12 th and Sunday, June13 th

Place: Manitoba Japanese Cultural Center, 180 McPhillips Ave.

Time: 9:30am – 3:30pm

• Mandatory attendance is required of all MB/SASK 1999 JET participants.

• JETAA members will provide presentations on Japan related issues covering all areas to prepare participants for their pre, during, and post JET life. The JET PROGRAM information packets will also be distributed at this time.

June 13 th - Sayonara BBQ: This year it was decided to hold the BBQ on the afternoon ( 12:00-4pm) of the last day of orientation to accommodate participants from out of town. As in previous years, John and Judy Gowron will once again host this event at their home in Oakbank:

40 Juniper Drive (map provided at Orientation). The event will include JET alumni, new JET participants and their families, and invited guests. Food and refreshments will be provided and there will be a performance by Fubuki Daiko. The event is a good opportunity for participants and family to meet and to talk; and for alumni to answer any last minute questions.

Event: GAMBATTE Pool Party

Date: Wednesday, July 7 th

• The final event for Alumni and new JETs to get together, prior to the latter's departure for Japan. This informal, social gathering will be held at the home of Donna Bereziak's parents. The event will provide opportunities for further networking and sharing of information. Further details to follow at Orientation.
