The photographs selected for this portfolio are ones I took from the fall of 2005 to the present using the Canon A520 and Canon Power Shot SD780 IS point-and-shoot digital cameras (photos taken before this time will gradually be added). Their purpose is to provide a visual complement to the information presented. In keeping with the theme of limitation to liberation, I purposefully chose pre-existing images as opposed to taking photos specifically for this website-portfolio. I wanted to show that ideas could still be creatively evinced despite (even self-imposed) restrictions. Although their choice was conducted randomly, these images are symbolic of my progress as a learner. In keeping with this site's focus on self-directed learning, these images evoke the following themes:
-
the traditional versus the modern
-
past, present, and future
-
illumination
-
links and connections
-
growth, progress, and demise
-
ascendancy
-
domesticity
-
justice
-
literacy
-
creativity
